Introducing the Oak Astro Advanced Dew Shield for the ZWO Seestar S50.
A number of customers have enquired about an enhanced dew shield, slightly longer, that could be used with the OAK Optical Accessory Kit. Instead of just looking to extend the flocked dew shield of the OAK Kit with a simple tube we chose to look at the request from a slightly different perspective, which has lead to the development of the ADS.
The ADS is a stand alone dew shield system that can be used with or without the OAK Kit, providing Seestar users who may not have their own filters, or have them but not wish to use them with a quality dew shield system.
When both parts of the dew shield are used the upper provides a rifled and baffled section while the lower part is flocked.
Comprising of 5 parts the ADS includes:
- A flocked ADS adapter, essentially the same dew shield that comes as part of the OAK kit but as a single piece and not allowing the mounting of 3rd party filters.
A PETG-CF (Carbon fibre, chosen for it's outdoor endurance and reduced specular qualities) rifled and baffled dew shield extender which slips over the top of the included adapter (detailed above) or will fit over the OAK Kit dew shield providing the same enhanced light scattering abilities.
- Finally a refined Bhatinov, along with Newtonian and Webb style masks in cap form, which fits over the end of the dew shield extender, comprise the rest of the ADS system. Please note these masks can only be used when the rifled section is installed.
When testing with a light meter a further 50% reduction in scattered light was measured over using the flocked adapter or OAK dew shield alone. This took measurements below 0.01FC (the lowest our current light meter is capable of measuring).
Please note that the extended dew shield / light hood from the ADS is NOT compatible with the OA-AFH as it shifts the centre of mass too far from the AFH hinge preventing it from opening correctly when the Seestar shuts down.
